Promoting Native Homeownership
The South Dakota Tribal Homeownership Coalition is a group of key agencies and nonprofit organizations coming together to support an environment favorable to homeownership on South Dakota’s reservations. To find out more about this coalition and its activities read the news stories below.

South Dakota Statewide Native Homeownership Coalition on the Horizon
South Dakota USDA Rural Development, Governor’s Office of Economic Development, South Dakota Housing Development Authority (SDHDA), and the Great Plains Native Asset Building Coalition convened a vital meeting of stakeholders recently to gain input on the creation of a statewide coalition to support and promote homeownership in South Dakota Native communities. South Dakota Tribes Building Homeownership Coalition
A new South Dakota statewide coalition will support and promote homeownership in Native communities. Six of the state’s nine Indian reservations, including six representatives of housing authorities, gathered at a recent session to provide critical input. Also in attendance was the South Dakota USDA Rural Development, South Dakota Housing Development Authority, and the Great Plains Native Asset Building Coalition. Read more.
Strategic Planning Session
Pierre, South Dakota – November 20-21, 2013
Key members of the South Dakota Native Homeownership Coalition met for a strategic planning session to look at goals, objectives, and milestones. The Coalition is currently working on finalizing the strategic plan, which should be ready for distribution in early 2014. The Coalition would like to thank everyone who participated.
South Dakota Statewide Native Homeownership Coalition Pre-Conference Session
Pierre, South Dakota – November 18, 2013
This training, offered as a pre-conference session of the South Dakota Housing Development Authority’s 23rd Annual Housing Conference, provided housing practitioners working in Native communities information on models and resources supporting homeownership. This interactive session highlighted the benefits of these resources, as well as the challenges in accessing and using them. South Dakota Native Homeownership Convening

On June 27, 2013, a diverse group of key stakeholders came together to explore the creation of a statewide coalition to promote Native homeownership in South Dakota. Response to the idea of starting a statewide coalition was overwhelmingly positive, and stakeholders were unanimous in their agreement to continue working together.
